As a key partner in the SustainEd project, FAROS actively participated in the pilot testing phase of the SustainEdX Toolkit, a comprehensive educational resource designed to enhance sustainability education in higher education institutions. This initiative aligns with our commitment to promoting green skills and circular economy concepts among university students.
The Purpose of Pilot Testing
The SustainEd pilot testing aimed to evaluate the usability, effectiveness, and engagement levels of the developed WebQuests—interactive learning modules that blend theoretical knowledge with practical applications. Each partner in the project was responsible for testing specific WebQuests with students and educators in their respective countries.
Implementation in Cyprus
FAROS, representing Cyprus in the SustainEd project, collaborated with the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT) to conduct structured pilot testing sessions. The testing focused on four key WebQuests, addressing:
- Sustainability reporting and transparency
- Green procurement strategies for SMEs
- Socially responsible investing
- Zero-waste campus design
Students from the Faculty of Tourism Management, Hospitality, and Entrepreneurship participated, exploring sustainability in business and responsible tourism practices. The sessions were structured into:
- Introduction & WebQuest selection – Students were introduced to the project and assigned to relevant WebQuests.
- Independent and guided exploration – Participants engaged with the platform, researched sustainability issues, and applied problem-solving strategies.
- Presentations & feedback sessions – Teams shared their findings, discussed challenges, and provided insights on their learning experience.
Key Findings & Feedback
Engagement & Relevance: Students found the WebQuests highly relevant to their academic fields, particularly in sustainable tourism and hospitality management.
Usability: The SustainEd platform was praised for its intuitive navigation and clear structure.
Time Management: Some students suggested adjustments to activity length, as certain WebQuests required more time for in-depth exploration.
Impact and Next Steps
The feedback collected will be instrumental in refining the SustainEdX Toolkit, ensuring it meets the needs of higher education students across Europe. FAROS remains committed to advancing sustainability education and supporting the green transition in business and academia.
